Adam manages a team of eight people and looks after a portfolio of 15 clients with an overall fleet size of 9,000 vehicles. His role is to lead a Fleet Services team in meeting agreed service, productivity and client performance targets for the teams assigned client portfolio. He prioritises and directs tasks in the team to ensure customer needs are met as well as ensuring that team members have the support they need to aid their own career development at LeasePlan.
Adam didn’t go to college or university – he made his way up the career ladder by working hard, building relationships and developing himself. His first job was as an administrator in Customs and Excise, he then went on to work for another eight companies before joining us, including the Shire Horse Pub, AV Electronics and Dixons Retail. Through his work experience, Adam has gained skills in how to interact with customers and colleagues in different environments and to deliver the best possible customer service.
Adam started off in our Operations & Service Division, where he worked hard to build a good network with professionals across the business. It was his desire to motivate, support and develop his colleagues that spurred him to develop himself to be a people manager in the business.
In 2014, Adam was successful in joining the LeasePlan SHINE Programme – a one year internal training and development course, which gave him the skills and tools to develop himself further. Describing the initiative as “going out of his comfort zone”, he was put in challenging situations in order to learn new skills in the workplace. Being on SHINE helped Adam significantly, and now he proudly sits as a team leader within our Commercial Division.
“It is about who you know. Building relationships is very important. If you get along with people, it makes a big difference.”
“Don’t stress yourself, it is not all about qualifications. It is all about working hard, being disciplined and having a goal. It is important to try different things, live different experiences. There are a lot of things that you are good at but you don’t know it until you try it.”
